CHAIRPERSON of Action Tuam Daniel Hardiman.

Business gathering to explore AI, innovation and future enterprise

Tuam’s business community is set to take centre stage during National Local Enterprise Week with Digital Futures, a forward-focused enterprise event organised by Action Tuam and supported by the Galway Local Enterprise Office. The event aims to help local companies navigate the rapidly evolving digital economy while unlocking new opportunities for productivity, growth, and innovation.

Action Tuam says the event reflects a growing recognition that regional towns like Tuam must actively engage with digital transformation to remain competitive and attract new investment.

Chairperson of Action Tuam Daniel Hardiman will use the occasion to formally launch the organisation’s Strategic Direction 2025–2030, outlining an ambitious roadmap aimed at strengthening Tuam’s role as a hub for innovation, enterprise development, and sustainable economic growth.

“Digital Futures represents a key milestone in Action Tuam’s journey,” said Daniel Hardiman. “Our new strategic direction places digital capability, entrepreneurship, and collaboration at the heart of Tuam’s future. We want local businesses to feel empowered to embrace change and position themselves for long-term success.”

A highlight of the programme will be an interactive training session from Bernie Goldbach and Frances O’Donnell, lecturers and AI researchers, who will explore how Artificial Intelligence tools can be practically applied by SMEs to improve productivity, save time, and enhance customer engagement.

“AI is no longer something reserved for big tech companies,” said Bernie Goldbach. “Small and medium enterprises can now use accessible digital tools to automate routine tasks, analyse data more effectively, and deliver better experiences for their customers. Events like Digital Future help demystify the technology and show business owners how to start small but think big.”

Tuam native Danny McCoy, CEO of the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (Ibec), will also address the gathering, offering national and international insights into the opportunities and challenges presented by digital transformation. “Digital innovation is reshaping every sector of the Irish economy,” said Danny McCoy. “Regional enterprise hubs such as Tuam have a vital role to play in Ireland’s future growth. By embracing technology and investing in skills, local businesses can compete globally while remaining rooted in their communities.”

The event is being supported by the Galway Local Enterprise Office, which continues to champion digital adoption and business resilience throughout the county. CEO Caroline McDonagh emphasised the importance of initiatives that help SMEs stay ahead of technological change. “Digital Futures is an excellent example of collaboration at local level, providing practical insights, expert guidance, and inspiration for companies ready to take the next step in their digital journey,” said Caroline McDonagh.

The event is open to business owners, managers, community leaders and anyone interested in how digital technologies are reshaping enterprise across a broad spectrum of activity.
