CEO of Enterprise Ireland makes first visit to JFC Tuam

A DATA buoy made by the JFC Group is providing important weather information from up to 100km off the Irish coast.

JFC Group have expanded into manufacturing solar-powered data buoy systems, collaborating with marine organisations such as the Marine Institute, Inland Waterways Association of Ireland, and Commissioner of Irish Lights to develop the advanced environmental monitoring technology.

“The marine sector is big, there’s been a push on the technology side of that. It’s a good business and is growing rapidly,” said JFC Group owner and Managing Director John Concannon, who welcomed members of Enterprise Ireland to his company’s base in Tuam recently.

“We have one buoy that we produced that’s 80km or 100km off the Irish coast for weather recording. The data buoys tend to be related to the oil industry. You’ll have shipping lanes wherever there is oil.”

CEO of Enterprise Ireland Jenny Melia was part of a delegation of Enterprise Ireland members who visited JFC Group’s €25million manufacturing facility in Tuam, which was unveiled in 2024. JFC Group employs in excess of 180 people in Tuam and exports products to more than 30 countries including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Denmark and Spain.
