Cameras on the way at last for Tuam dumping blackspot

LONG-awaited CCTV cameras are to be installed at a major dumping blackspot in Tuam town centre.

The recycling and clothing banks at the Palace Grounds carpark near the leisure centre have fallen victim to significant illegal dumping incidents over the past year.

Despite the clothing banks being emptied twice a week, Council staff still have to clear up bags of clothes dumped at the site, which can't be reused. Councillors have previously suggested moving the banks to a different location or removing them entirely due to the persistent problem of illegal dumping.

Last year the Council announced a pilot project of rolling out CCTV in a bid to catch those responsible for illegal dumping and the Tuam site was chosen as one of the initial sites.
