Traffic restrictions in place ahead of sold-out rugby clash
Official opening of stand at Dexcom Stadium
THOUSANDS of sports fans are expected in Galway on Saturday for the rugby clash between Connacht and Leinster and the official opening of the new stand at Dexcom Stadium.
Gardaí say they welcome all supporters to Galway for the sold-out Championship match but warn that traffic restrictions will be in place. A capacity attendance of 12,000 people is expected as well as large crowds travelling to the city for the event.
Gardaí advise that large volumes of traffic can be expected in the general area of the city throughout the day, particularly in the vicinity of the stadium in the build up to the 5.30pm kick-off and immediately afterwards. Turnstiles will open at 3.30pm.
College Road will be closed to vehicular access from 3pm until approximately 8pm.
Pedestrians will not be permitted into a zone on College Road – between the stadium’s entrance and the carpark entrance – unless they have a match ticket. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained.
Gardaí urge people to allow extra time for travel and where possible, use public transport. Supporters are encouraged to arrive early at the stadium and those travelling by car are reminded to park legally. Several motorists were fined recently for illegal parking close to the stadium recently.
