Lightning and wildlife blamed for North Galway power cuts

Councillors want direct answers

LIGHTNING, timber and vegetation, wildlife, alongside equipment failure on the network have been given as the main reasons for a multitude of power outages in North Galway.

Glenamaddy, Clonberne and Dunmore were all affected as were parts of Williamstown, Creggs and Kilkerrin with reports of up to 20 power cuts over the past 12 months.

The power outages were discussed at length during last week’s MD meetings in Tuam and Ballinasloe. A motion from Cllr Evelyn Parsons requesting a senior representative from the ESB attend a future Ballinasloe MD meeting to urgently answer all the councillors’ queries was unanimously passed.

A spokesperson for the ESB told The Tuam Herald that they apologised to all homes, farms and businesses impacted.
