Banks stars in provincial success for High Cross girls in
First half Dooley goal crucial for Tuam students
By Mike Rafferty
HUGELY aided by the excellence of Emily Banks, High Cross College were crowned Connacht Post Primary Senior D camogie champions following a spirited victory over Coláiste na Coiribe in Ballyloughane, home of the Liam Mellows GAA Club, on Monday lunchtime.
This was a titanic struggle as the two sides offered no shortage of commitment, passion and skill as the contest edged one way and then the other, with the Tuam students hanging on for dear life in the closing stages as their goal led a charmed life.
Aided by the wind, it was the city side who made the most of the opportunities and two early goals had them six points clear in the opening half before High Cross scored 1-3 without reply before the break to leave the sides level.
