COROFIN Leaving Cert student Michael Evans is now cancer-free.

Corofin teen tells his story of surviving cancer in new book

Hopes to help others

A TEENAGER from Corofin tells his cancer survival story in a new book aimed at giving hope to young people going through cancer treatment.

Michael Evans was first diagnosed with leukaemia - a form of blood cancer that affects the growth of bone marrow - in 2016 when he was just nine years old.

He had been living a very active lifestyle, which included sports like soccer, swimming and gymnastics. This all had to be set aside as he underwent treatment, which saw him making several long trips to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

After three and a half years, in March 2020, Michael got the news he and his family had been longing to hear. His treatment was over, and he could go back to living a normal life.

Now aged 18, Michael has chosen to tell his story in a new book: Bad Times, Good Times - Teenage Cancer, Our Story. It comprises stories from 30 teenagers, all members of CanTeen, a national support group for young people who have or had cancer.
