Captain and vice-captain relishing run to decider
EXPERIENCE on the biggest stage is not in short supply in the Athenry ranks.
Their captain Dervla Higgins has won two All-Ireland Senior titles with Galway, while Athenry’s vice-captain Lisa Casserly captained Galway to an All-Ireland Intermediate title in 2022.
A clutch of other players on the panel have played in All-Ireland deciders at various grades, and will be aware of what awaits them on Sunday in Croke Park when they play St. Finbarr’s from Cork.
“We’re lucky in the club that quite a few players have been either involved in a team that has been in Croke Park, or played in Croke Park themselves. It won’t phase them too much,” said Athenry captain Dervla Higgins.
