Tuam gets ready to ‘light up’

STREETS and buildings in Tuam will glow in vibrant festive colours when the Christmas lights are officially switched on at the end of the month.

The event will kickstart festive celebrations in the town with a family-friendly event planned to mark the occasion on Saturday, November 29 at 5pm.

The town's Christmas tree has been selected after an extensive search and will soon be on the way to be decorated for the big day.

The recent expansion of the Christmas Lights on the link road from Shop Street to Bishop Street will again light up the dark evenings and mornings.

Committee members Cllr Shaun Cunniffe and Keith Fleming are looking forward to the event which they say will offer great entertainment, music, dance and a special visit from Santa.

The committee thanked all businesses across Tuam for their generous donations that make it possible to decorate the town’s streets as well as Galway County Council for providing all the logistical help.

Members of the committee are also urging the community in Tuam to make a conscious effort to shop local as much as possible to support the local businesses.
