Kilkerrin-Clonberne march on

KILKERRIN-CLONBERNE qualified for a Connacht final showdown with St Brigid's from Roscommon next weekend after they overcame Westport in the provincial semi-final played at the home of the Mayo champions on Sunday. Willie Ward’s charges were given a competitive challenge but ultimately had too much quality for the home side with the result never in doubt.

The defending All-Ireland champions found themselves chasing a six-point deficit after seven minutes of play. A 30-yard free from Westport’s Laura Moran dipped just below the crossbar and ended up in the Kilkerrin-Clonberne net to get the Mayo champions up-and-running.

Soon after, the Ward twins combined for Kilkerrin-Clonberne with centre-back Nicola punching over a point. Mayo county player Aoife Geraghty then landed a long-range score for Westport as the strength of the wind was in evidence.
