Milltown near top again

MILLTOWN have narrowly missed out on securing both the county and national crowns at the 2025 Tidy Towns Competition, despite still picking up a Gold Medal.

Gold, silver and bronze awards are given to the entrants with scores that fall within a set range from that year’s winning score, with this year’s champions being Carrick-on-Shannon in Leitrim, who bagged 400 points out of a possible 550.

With a score of 397, Milltown were awarded a Gold Medal, having finished just three points behind the overall winner. There was also success for Tuam and Ballygar, who with scores of 372 and 380 respectively secured bronze medals.

Milltown has a fantastic record in the competition, having taken home the county title on 21 occasions. However, despite an increase of 13 points on their 2024 score, it was not enough to retain their Galway crown, with the village of Abbey in South-East Galway securing 398 points.

“We were never going to win the county award every year and we still managed to increase our score by 13 points, so it was still a great result,” Eamon Callaghan, Milltown Tidy Towns Chairperson, told The Tuam Herald.
