Other driver seriously injured
A MAN in his 20s has died following a road collision on the outskirts Milltown early this morning (Friday).
The collision, involving a car and a van, occurred at Drum shortly after 8am.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. A postmortem examination will be carried out at the morgue at University Hospital Galway.
The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was airlifted to UHG for treatment of serious injuries.
The road (N17) is closed between Milltown and Ballindine pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Diversions are in place at the Milltown Road/Tuam bypass roundabout in Tuam and in Ballindine, Co Mayo.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7:45am and 8:15am this morning (Friday) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
