Movie silence is magical in Galway

A Tuam resident who found a love for silent movies in Germany has been showcasing the art form in Galway for the past three years and is now organising Ireland's first Silent Film Festival

AN early 1900s black and white film with only gentle live music as the sound captivates cinema lovers who have gathered for the special screening of the silent film.

Watching an early classic movie on screen is like magic for several viewers who are passionate about the art of filmmaking and old-style storytelling.

Behind the magical meet-ups is a cinema enthusiast living in Tuam, who has been running the Silent Cinema in Galway city for three years.

Adam Scheffler, from Poland, moved to Galway 17 years ago. A digital marketer by profession, he has been passionate about cinema and the arts for a long time.

“I was living in Berlin, Germany, for some time, where I watched my first silent film in Babylon Theatre. They present the silent films with a full orchestra, and I got goosebumps while watching the film Nosferatu, a German film from the 1920s.
