Dog was truly Tuam man’s best friend

A MEMOIR detailing the beautiful companionship between a dog and his owner, written by a man from Tuam, is making waves in the US and is due for release in Ireland at the end of this month.

‘A Sheepdog Named Oscar: Love and Companionship in Rural Ireland’ is written by Dara Waldron, the son of Mary and the late John Waldron, two well-known former GPs in Tuam. The author’s grandfather was also a GP in Tuam, Dr Anthony Waldron.

The book hit the shelves in the US at the end of August, and has been doing well in the Mid-West region of the country. It was chosen last week as one of the top books for the month of September by Barnes & Noble, one of the largest bookselling chains in the US with some 600 stores.
