Joyce extends tenure as Galway manager until 2028

GALWAY GAA confirmed a two-year extension to Padraic Joyce’s term as Galway senior football manager following a meeting of the County Committee on Monday night.

The extension means that Joyce will be in charge of Galway until 2028. The Killererin man previously had his term increased by two years to 2026 in October of last year, and he is currently the second longest serving manager in inter-county football after Armagh's Kieran McGeeney.

The make-up of Joyce’s backroom team for next season will be made public in due course. John Divilly, Micheál Ó Domhnaill and John Concannon have been involved in all six seasons of Joyce’s tenure as selectors. Cavan’s Mickey Graham and Corofin’s David Morris joined the backroom last year after Cian O’Neill’s departure.

Joyce, a two-time All-Ireland winner and three-time All-Star as a player, took over as Galway manager from his former teammate Kevin Walsh in October of 2019. Walsh had been at the helm for five seasons.

In that time, Joyce led Galway to two All-Ireland final appearances and saw his side narrowly lose the 2022 and 2024 deciders to Kerry and Armagh, respectively.

Galway won a fourth Connacht title in succession under Joyce’s watch in May, before they were surprisingly knocked out of the All-Ireland race at the quarter-final stage by Meath.
