Merging the arts with the art of stilt walking

AN ARTS group in Athenry is hoping to bridge the gap between the arts and artists, while bringing more attention towards the skill of Stilt Walking.

Started in 2014, by actor and theatre maker Máire Daly, the Gliondar arts group has been actively supporting various artists and art forms over the years while also creating entertainment for the people of Athenry and other parts of Co Galway.

As a performance artist herself, Máire saw a gap in the arts that needed to be brought to the growing group of artists and creative workers living in Athenry.

“Watching the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, I noticed that it had lost the variety that it used to have. I knew we could do better than that, if someone could take it in hand.”
