Taking the road less travelled to a regenerative farm

THE Mad Yolk Farm offers more than just what it suggests on the tin.

Owner Brian Dilleen uses regenerative farming practices on his 27-acre holding in Craughwell, and in that line of methodology, he lets 2,000 hens out to pasture on his land.

They stay in mobile henhouses and their free-range eggs can be bought in businesses in Tuam, Athenry, Oranmore, Galway city, and even as far away as Westport. The eggs are also sold in an honesty shop on the farm that has been converted from an old outhouse building. Honey, sourdough bread, vegetables, and other produce are also available.

Dilleen puts his trust in the people buying supplies from the shop to pay for what they get. Members of the public can leave cash in a container or pay for the produce by online means. That’s where the honesty element to the store comes from.

The farm, located along the R446 outside Craughwell village, has become popular in recent times with people of all age brackets for its sauna facility and two cold plunge pools. The sauna is also a renovated outhouse building.
