NATIONAL CADET TITLE FOR MONIVEA BOXER

MONIVEA Boxing Club secured a National Senior Cadet title at the National Stadium over the weekend.

75kg John Ward defeated John McDonagh (Galway BC) in his quarter-final, received a walkover in the semi-final, and in the final took all three rounds against Martin Collins (Baldoyle BC) winning on a unanimous decision.

Ella Leonard 66kg put in a good performance losing out to Alesha Boyle (Dungloe BC). The club's 44kg Lacy Shaughnessy lost out in her final to Louise Joyce (Olympic Mullingar).

Also Adam Hession was due to box in the semi-finals of the Elite competition in Belfast yesterday (Tuesday). This competition is part of the selection process for the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool in September.
