Council seek €6million for Tuam Station House revamp

GALWAY County Council is seeking €6 million in funding for the major re-development of the derelict Tuam Railway Station House and surrounding area.

Councillors unanimously voted in favour of the Part 8 planning application at last week’s meeting of Tuam MDC and the local authority has since applied to the Northern and Western Regional Assembly (NWRA), for funding for the ambitious project on the Sean Purcell Road.

The plans include the construction of a new enterprise hub featuring individual enterprise suites, a podcast studio, café/canteen and a multi-use community and event/educational space. The plans will not interfere with the re-opening of the railway station, which Junior Transport Minister Seán Canney told The Tuam Herald, is being progressed.

The Station House project is the first phase of a larger regeneration of the overall station lands involving a partnership between Galway County Council and Irish Rail.
