Tuam Cathedral carpark to be managed privately

A SHORTAGE of parking spaces for Mass-goers and pressure on volunteers has led to parking at Tuam Cathedral being managed by a private operator.

While the changeover, due to happen from June 4, won’t see barriers installed, it is likely to result in an increase to the all-day parking fee of €2.

Hundreds of people use the facility on a daily basis and while many pay the parking fee, it has proven challenging to ensure those not attending Masses or funerals at the Cathedral pay the fee.

Administrator in Tuam Fr Pat Farragher said the carpark had become so busy since Christmas that they had to “take action” ............
