New owners plan new life for village shop in Kilconly

DREAMS are coming true for a married couple in Kilconly.

Sarah Petersen and her wife Anna Frederowicz are having the grand opening of The Village Shop on Sunday in Kilconly, a premises which will act as a grocery store, deli, café and pizzeria.

Francis and Marie Byrne successfully ran their Byrnes Groceries business from the building for 22 years and retired in March. The opportunity to create another replacement local shop for Kilconly village was acted upon swiftly by Sarah and Anna, who are living in Kilconly.

“We’re building a house this year as well. It’s due to arrive on a truck from Sweden in seven or eight weeks, so we’re up to 90,” said Sarah Petersen.

An interior designer, the house is Sarah’s dream project. Anna is a third-generation pastry chef originally from Poland and living in Ireland for 20 years, so running a food and retail outlet is her dream.
