More of a buzz about beekeeping in Galway
A DUNMORE based beekeeper, who has developed his own bee suit, has reported a boom in popularity and interest in the pastime in North Galway.
Graham Wright started out as an amateur beekeeper in 2018 after taking early retirement, initially just as a hobby having first pursued it in the 1980s.
However, since then he has created a thriving business in Shanballymore Apiary where he sells a wide range of infused and raw honey, alongside beekeeping equipment.
“I got involved largely due to my concern over the depleting population of the native Irish Black bee. I started with just two hives, but I now have 20,” he told The Tuam Herald in an interview to mark World Bee Day (May 20).
