ROAD TO RECOVERY

Latest tech is used to map recovery from sports injuries

A GALWAY sports exercise and training tech company is preparing to branch out and have its product trialled across the Irish Sea by Premier League soccer clubs.

Emma Meehan, from Menlo on the outskirts of Galway city, is the founder and CEO of Precision Sports Technology, a company that provides a software platform called KinetikIQ for the Connacht rugby squad, and NBA and NFL teams across the Atlantic.

Emma left a career in software development to focus full-time on Precision Sports Technology in 2021, after she gained acceptance into Enterprise Ireland’s New Frontiers Programme.

“Fitness is my passion,” said Emma, whose idea for her sports tech venture came from a final year project she did in her Computer Science and Information Technology degree at the University of Galway. Emma is a qualified PT (Personal Trainer) who has also taken part in national weightlifting competitions at Olympic Level.

The KinetikIQ software platform can be downloaded as an app, with a limited free version package available.

It uses LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), a revolutionary type of technology that has detected lost ancient cities in the Amazon rainforest from a helicopter flying overhead. LiDAR will map a person’s movement capabilities in real-time and is particularly useful for physiotherapists when assisting someone recovering from an injury.
