Unanimous approval for ‘exciting’ revamp of Tuam’s Shambles

TUAM councillors have unanimously approved plans for a multi-million redevelopment of The Shambles car park in Tuam town centre.

At a special meeting of Tuam MDC last week, members vowed to lobby Galway TDs, Senators and Ministers to ensure that capital funding is allocated for what was described as an extremely exciting project for the town.

The public car park will undergo a significant transformation to accommodate covered outdoor market and community events space.

It will allow for year-round events and festivals and is predicted to significantly increase footfall in the area while greatly improving the streetscape.

The Part 8 Planning Application was presented to Tuam MDC councillors who all spoke favourably about the proposal. Officials with Galway County Council are applying this week for capital funding for the project through the Rural Regeneration Development Fund…
