DANCING SHAMROCKS

Cortoon rocked the dancefloor

CORTOON showed it’s the club that can truly rock the dancefloor on Sunday night as hundreds of supporters, at home and away, watched the Shamrocks celebrate their biggest fundraiser to date.

More than €71,000 has been raised by the 12 dancing duos in online donations and several thousand euro fell under the hammer during the night’s auction. Ticket sales and sponsorship could nudge the final total for the hugely successful event to a whopping €100,000.

Tickets were a rapid sell-out and the friends, family and supporters who didn’t manage to get inside the ballroom filled the Ard Rí House Hotel foyer where they watched the dancing spectacle on a big screen. Crowds filled many local pubs and homes around Tuam and Cortoon for the live streamed event, which was also watched by diaspora in New York, Sydney, Dublin and Dubai — all sending their messages of support throughout the night.

Chairperson of Cortoon Shamrocks GAA Club Martin Maloney said it was the biggest fundraiser ever in the club’s long history and he paid tribute to the organising committee for turning what began as an idea over a few drinks into a phenomenal showstopping success…
