Dexcom hoping to ‘speed up’ construction of Athenry facility

GLOBAL med tech company Dexcom is hoping to get its Athenry facility up and running ahead of schedule.

Two weeks ago, ground was broken on the construction site on the town’s outskirts, where some 1,000 jobs are promised as part of a €300 million investment over the next five years.

The large-scale project, being built on IDA lands, is expected to take two years to complete, but a move-in date could be sooner if the development can be progressed more quickly.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, who first met with company representatives in San Diego a few years ago when he was Tanaiste, has indicated that the company is eager to move as quickly as possible with the Athenry project.

Speaking in Athenry last Friday, Mr Varadkar said that Dexcom was planning to “speed up” the Athenry facility, if possible, such was the demand for their product…
