Deflating Christmas gift for local CDNT service users

PARENTS of children living with a disability under the care of the North Galway CDNT 7 unit in Tuam were informed four days before Christmas Day that their next family forum meeting, scheduled for the end of January, would not take place.

A review into the practices and operations at the CDNT (Children’s Disability Network Team) 7 has been ordered by the HSE, something that was welcomed last week by Galway East TD and Minister for Disability Anne Rabbitte. The review comes about following outcries from parents of children living with a disability locally at the paucity of services available out of the CDNT 7.

Their outcries and experiences were covered by local and national media, and led to a protest by parents outside the CDNT 7 base at the new Grove in Tuam on December 14 last.

The next family forum meeting was fixed for January 25 in the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry. Family forums allow parents of children living with a disability an opportunity to meet with high-ranking CDNT service providers and are moderated by an independent facilitator. They are held between two and four times a year…
