TURNED DOWN

Proposed Tuam houses would be ‘traffic hazard’

PLANS for a new residential development at Bishop Street in Tuam have been turned down by county planners.

The proposal to build three terraced houses and a number of duplex apartments sparked several objections from residents in the area.

The development was earmarked for an overgrown site close to the town centre for residential use and planning had been lodged with Galway County Council.

The application on behalf of an M Cummins, who owns the property, sought permission to demolish a derelict building and construct a total of 11 units. Fronting Bishop Street would be three, three-bedroom terraced homes while eight duplex units were proposed for the rear of the site.

The duplex units were a mix of two-bedroom and one-bedroom apartments with car parking as well as public open green space.

Permission was first sought more than a year ago…
