Parents of children living with a disability in Tuam area voice their concerns

THE frustration and anger felt by parents whose children are living with disabilities has led them to establish a WhatsApp group to have their concerns voiced over the lack of adequate services they feel they are receiving from the HSE and North Galway CDNT (Children’s Disability Network Team).

There are as many as 750 children living with a disability in the catchment remit of the North Galway CDNT 7, and 209 of these children have a HSE-assigned key worker assisting them.

The Tuam Herald received these figures from parents of children who are under the care of the North Galway CDNT 7. These parents have been liaising with members of the North Galway CDNT 7, a facility that is based in The Grove in Tuam and covers children in the Tuam, Abbeyknockmoy, Loughrea and Athenry areas “from birth to 18 years”, according to the HSE’s website.

There are 72 members of the WhatsApp group and this newspaper has spoken to three separate parents from it. The group was set up following a family/parent forum on October 26 in the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry…
