The tallest one yet!

Tuam installs its biggest ever Christmas tree

TUAM’S biggest ever Christmas tree has been installed on the Square this week, marking the countdown to the official start of Christmas in the town.

The John Mannion Memorial Tree stands at 35 feet tall, a six-foot increase on the usual tree that marks the centrepiece of the town’s festive display.

The tree is in memory of the late John Mannion and his father Christy who sold Christmas trees in the town for generations, and is sponsored by their brother and son, Criostóir Mannion who continues the family business.

“We’re delighted with this year’s tree, which is a good bit taller than what we’ve previously put up, but it looks great and we’re thankful to John Higgins in Castlegrove for helping us find it,” said Criostóir.

The Christmas Lights will be switched on this Saturday evening, November 25, at 5pm, when people young and old are invited to the town centre to share in the celebrations...
