Menlough promoted from Junior ranks

EIGHT days on from winning the inaugural Galway Primary Junior Football Championship, Menlough sealed their return to Intermediate ranks with a 0-12 to 0-7 promotion playoff victory over Tuam Stars on Sunday.

Rob Hughes has previous when it comes to helping the club climb up the grades. His booming free made all the difference in the 2006 Intermediate final against St. James' and went down in Menlough folklore. He drew comparisons with Kerry great Maurice Fitzgerald seven years later when arcing over a sideline kick to help guarantee their return to Senior ranks in '13.

The North Galway club has been plying their trade at Junior level in recent times, but the evergreen midfielder has been at it again this season - first kicking the winner in the North Board final with Headford and finishing with a priceless haul of eight points, six coming from frees, last weekend…
