Gift from the heart

O'Toole couple's legacy gift of €3m to Croí will change lives

THE latest act of benevolence by the late Joe and Helen O’Toole has been described as “transformative” by the heart and stroke charity Croí, which has received over €3m in a legacy gift from the Tuam business couple.

The donation was unveiled last week when a new community bus, purchased as one of the major community projects to benefit from the funding, was launched outside O’Toole’s SuperValu supermarket.

Relatives of the late Joe and Helen O’Toole joined Mary Lardner, who is a trustee of the Joe and Helen O’Toole Charitable Trust, and senior representatives from the charity who said the donation would literally save lives throughout the Western Region.

Mattie O’Toole, a cousin of Joe and one of the trustees of the Charitable Trust, said the couple were always very supportive of their local community.

“Joe and Helen believed in supporting worthy local causes and investing in community projects,” he said.
