Reimagining The Shambles

Performance space and home for a Tuam market may be ready for summer

A SHELTERED outdoor community space and a home for a craft and farmers’ market could be in place in the centre of Tuam ahead of next summer.

Proposals for a reimagining of The Shambles car park space to incorporate a space for performances as well as covered areas for market stalls are being worked on by Galway County Council and local councillors.

The concept is part of the blueprint for Tuam’s development, it’s Masterplan which was drawn up several years ago.

Last week Tuam area councillors were given a briefing on preliminary ideas for the community space and the feedback to the council’s sketches were positive.

The plans are being worked on ahead of a planned submission for funding for the redevelopment of Tuam Town Hall. Tuam’s Regeneration Team hope the scheme will open before the end of the year…
