Marley hails the heroes of famine ending victory

“REALTA THUAMA ABÚ” were the words the Tuam Stars minor captain closed his acceptance speech with on Saturday evening as he held the John C McHugh Cup aloft.

Shay McGlinchey had caught two marks off restarts from his goalkeeper Conor Mullins in the final quarter, taken possession from another Mullins kickout in that time period, and won an important free for Rory Igoe to convert with regulation time almost up as Tuam protected a three-point lead.

“He’s a great man to get a leap up into the air,” said Tuam Stars minor manager Donal Marley about his captain’s influence in the final quarter.

“At very important times he went up and caught that ball and he came down with it. We made use of it, he didn’t just come down with it and stay still. We got it out of there straight away and we moved up the field. Very important to win those kickouts…
