Kilbannon’s bridge repairs deemed ‘not one bit safe’

THE reinstatement of a bridge on the outskirts of Tuam has been criticised as being ‘not one bit safe’ by residents who fear someone will be hurt in the area.

The bridge at Kilbannon, just off the Weir Road, was replaced in June by Galway County Council, whose contractors installed kerbing to reinforce the bridge walls, which has narrowed the already small local road.

Locals living nearby say the narrowing of the road means they cannot get farm machinery through the bridge, which is also a hindrance to emergency vehicles needing access to the area.

Mattie Keane, who owns Keane Agri Contractors, said he has to drive through Tuam town to access lands further up the road to Kilbannon village as he cannot get through the bridge since it was replaced...
