Smaller primary school bus leaves pupils facing a dangerous walk

A NORTH Galway primary school is appealing for the return of adequate school transport after capacity on the bus that serves the school was reduced.

Three families whose children attend Castlehackett NS have been left without transport for their children after the bus allocated to the school was reduced from a 33-seater to a 29-seater.

Acting school principal Noelle Gannon said the reduction in capacity had left families facing a stressful return to school as some were forced to walk to and from their homes along what is a very busy road.

“We need the review of school transport scheme to be published as a matter of urgency to address the shortfall in school bus places we’ve been allocated this year,” she said.
