North Galway faces in People of Year Awards

SEVERAL well-known community activists and supporters from North Galway have been honoured in this year's Galway People of the Year awards.

From Tuam, Patricia King Callaghan is an active volunteer and talented playwright who has written many historical plays.

Sr Agnes Curley, also living in Tuam, has made an immense contribution to her local community, from Tidy Towns to the redevelopment of Gilmartin Road.

Glenamaddy's PJ Fahy is honoured for enterprise and employment, creating over 300 jobs, supporting many local communities, providing scholarships for students, and for his own sporting achievements.

Another worthy recipient of an award – is Padraic Divilly from Kilkerrin, who has given over 50 years voluntary service for the betterment of rural communities through the IFA and many local organisations.

Michael Hurley has been honoured for his contribution to his adopted Lackagh. Michael is recognised for the level of activity and achievements in his retirement and his decision to ‘rev up’ when others are winding down.

All 14 Galway People of the Year will be honoured at a Gala Banquet and presentation night in the Galway Bay Hotel on November 10. All the winners were nominated by members of the public for their work in a variety of fields, which contributed to the betterment of the lives of people in their communities.
