Intimidation of CE workers threatens future of Tuam’s colourful floral displays

TUAM’S impressive public floral display is at risk of wilting for the remainder of the summer as intimidation by a member of the public has forced those who water the plants to step down from the job.

With almost 300 hanging baskets, planters and window boxes adorning the town centre street scape, Tuam is one of the most colourful towns in the county, thanks to the efforts of the local Tidy Towns committee.

However, the task of watering such a vast collection of greenery is being made impossible by an individual who has directed verbal intimidation and physical aggression towards the two men who have been doing the job for the past five years.

The men, who are part of the Tuam and District Mental Health Association Community Employment Scheme, have reported the matter to the Gardaí, but say they can no longer carry out the work due to the continuing hostility they face…
