Group to raise money for sensory play equipment

NINE years after their last mammoth fundraiser, a group of north Galway butchers are once again taking to the saddle to raise funds for a local charity.

The group, led by Tuam’s Jarlath Kelly, has raised over €250,000 for a host of charitable causes in the past 20 years. Now, in honour of the new Disability Services Network Team, who have taken up residence in the renovated Grove hospital in Vicar Street in Tuam, the butchers are donning the lycra one last time to raise funds for equipment for sensory play areas in the new facility.

The cycle takes place on Sunday August 6, leaving the Sugar Factory at Airglooney at 9.30am. There are three routes to choose from; 80km, 50km and 25km and cyclists are encouraged to register early for the event.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s cycle, Jarlath’s daughter Claire said the Butchers’ and Friends Cycle fundraiser had supported several charities down through the years…
