Tuam is largest county town, Claregalway is the youngest

TUAM has the claim of being the smallest city in the world but it is now officially the largest town in Co Galway with close to 10,000 residents.

The latest Census data released by the CSO shows that as of April 2022 Tuam had a population of 9,647.

Claregalway also stands out as being the youngest town in the county, with the average age of people living there being just 31.9 years old. With a population of 1,632, Claregalway also makes it into the top ten of youngest small towns in Ireland.

Ballinasloe is the second largest town with a population of 6,597, followed by Loughrea 6,322, Oranmore 5,819 and Athenry 4,603.

Other towns in this region include Headford, which has a population of 1,235, Mountbellew 774, Corofin 745 and Dunmore 664…
