Equine Therapy Centre plan for Toghermore

Development could open up site to community sports facilities

A PROPOSAL to develop a National Equine Assisted Therapy Centre on the grounds of Toghermore House in Tuam could open up the estate for development of community facilities for the town, according to the new chair of the Regional Health Forum West.

Tuam MDC councillor Donagh Killilea was elected as chair of the forum at its AGM last week, where he sought confirmation that lands at Toghermore could be offered to the county council for use as recreation and amenity space.

Joe Hoare, Assistant National Director of HSE Capital and Estates, responded with details of the Equine Therapy Centre, which has been proposed by the Child Vision charity and is supported by Disabilities Minister Anne Rabbitte.

He also confirmed that Galway County Council had made an approach to the HSE to discuss the potential future of Toghermore as a community facility and said the executive was ‘amenable to supporting the various proposals’ and would engage with the relevant parties to explore how this might be achieved..
