Families frustrated with poor water supply

UPWARDS of 20 houses in Athenry have been left without a reliable water supply since late last year, with the situation only worsening during the recent heatwave.

Households are left frustrated by Irish Water’s inability to find a solution to the problem which has seen residents unable to have showers, run appliances, and provide their lifestock with adequate water in the townland of Carnaun.

Local councillor David Collins has been in contact with the state-owned water utility company since the beginning of the year and says he’s “completely disgruntled” with the present situation and the apparent lack of urgency from Irish Water.

“It’s gone from the stage of having issues for one hour a day to it being constant now,” explained Cllr Collins. “There are young families and elderly people affected and on each occasion that I’ve emailed Irish Water, I’ve received a different response from a different person. The whole situation is farcical.” ….
