WITHOUT even officially opening their doors as an amalgamated school, High Cross College, the students at Presentation College, Currylea, and the Mercy Tuam, are already making waves in the sporting world having joined forces to claim a Connacht Post Primary Schools Minor C Camogie title on Monday morning.

Their opponents from the camogie heartland of South Galway in Gort Community School were unable to reel in a nine-point half-time deficit, despite a courageous late fightback that left supporters on the edge of their seats.

In what was the last ever final as two separate entities after a decorated history, many may have expected that it would be a football decider the schools would be contesting.

However, Stephanie Kenny, Claire Kelly, Alan Molloy, Sarah Molloy and Gearóid Leen guided their players to a small ball decider and made away with the trophy on offer, which they hope will be the first of many under the new school’s umbrella…
