Tender Loving Care

Daycare Centre is a win-win for North Galway’s elderly

AS the finishing touches are being made to Tuam’s new Joe and Helen O’Toole Community Nursing Home, which is due to open later this year, a very important service offered by the current facility, Aras Mhuire, continues to cater for the town’s elderly population.

The Daycare Centre, previously housed within the Aras Mhuire centre on Dublin Road, relocated to the HSE’s Toghermore campus late last year. The pandemic had forced the service to close and with the lifting of public health guidelines, it was deemed safer to move the service out of the nursing home to a spacious new location in the conservatory building beside the day hospital.

The Day Care, which operates two days a week, caters for people from the wider Tuam region, welcoming participants from Tuam town, Kilconly and Abbeyknockmoy, with plans to increase the service to include people from the Dunmore region in the coming months.

Residents from Aras Mhuire attend the centre alongside elderly people still living at home, where they engage in sessions running from 10am to 4pm, each Tuesday and Thursday…
