Belclare Point-to-Point on eve of Cheltenham

THE North Galway Hunt Annual Point-to-Point will take place this Sunday, March 12 in Belclare.

The first of six races go to post at 2pm with a great day of horse racing promised at a picture perfect course, with stone walls intersecting the centre of the course on Michael Cunningham’s land in Golden Park.

The four-year-old maiden at the course has a particularly smart roll of honour but will always be synonymous with producing the three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate, who won the race in 1999, as well as The Thinker who won a Gold Cup back in 1987.

More recently, another Cheltenham Festival victor Topofthegame also recorded first success at the course, winning the 2016 renewal for Donnchadh Doyle…
