Oscar-nominated An Cailín Ciúin re-energising Irish language

A FILM edited by a Milltown native has been nominated for an Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards which will be presented on March 12, in a ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

An Cailín Ciúin, edited by John Murphy, a freelance film and television editor, has become the first ever Irish language film to be longlisted and subsequently nominated for an Academy Award in this year’s Best International Feature Film category.

Even previously scooping a whooping eight IFTAs (Irish Film and Television Academy and Awards) - including John picking up the top gong for Best Editing – and a further ten nominations in the BAFTAs, this is undoubtedly an altogether different realm that An Cailín Ciúin, or The Quiet Girl as it’s known internationally, has reached…
