Speed ramps installed to resolve ‘chaos’ at Tuam Mart entrance

EFFORTS to increase road safety for motorists and pedestrians at a busy Tuam intersection have advanced with the installation of traffic calming measures in the town.

Two speed ramps have been introduced on St Enda’s Avenue and are the result of a long campaign by Tuam Mart to slow traffic down on the approach to their facility at Church View.

Traffic coming from the town and turning right into the main mart car park has encountered serious difficulty in recent years, with several ‘near misses’ reported to mart staff.

Years of lobbying Galway County Council proved successful earlier this month when the two ramps were installed, with further works to create road markings and improved signage on the approach to the mart entrance planned in the coming weeks…
