‘Hopping’ mad

Fence culprits yet to make themselves known following damage to property

A MAN living on the outskirts of Tuam has said he is “hopping” mad with the fact that no one has come forward and admitted to hitting a fence on his land since it happened on Sunday December 11.

Mickey O’Connor lives on the Birmingham Road in Tuam and was away at a family funeral when his concrete fence was hit in two places. The fence encloses 14 acres of land near to his home, and is separated from the Birmingham Road by a footpath which is a popular walking destination at day and night.

“It was a maroon-coloured car. I have the back bumper of it here in the kitchen,” said Mickey.

“My neighbour was walking down to The Bridge for a pint around 5.45pm that evening. He tripped and fell, because the wire and concrete stake were left on the footpath. They didn’t even tidy up after themselves.”

The back bumper of the vehicle was left behind following the crash. It doesn’t have the number plate on it, a missing detail that is halting Mickey from making a formal claim with his insurance company.

He believes the incident took place between 3.30pm and 4pm that Sunday, during the icy road conditions brought on by the big freeze...
