HARD work down the drain says Michael Gilmore (left), who is pictured here with his prize winning poultry at Swinford Show in the autumn.

Over 40 prize turkeys stolen from Corrandulla teenager

A CORRANDULLA teenager has been left bereft following the theft of over 40 prize turkeys from his poultry farm.

Michael Gilmore, 16, who also runs the annual pumpkin patch from his family’s farm in Bunatober, discovered the theft of his prized breeding and show poultry on Sunday morning.

The thieves also stole the two turkeys Michael had bred for his family’s Christmas dinner, but it is the theft of his award-winning birds that has left him gutted.

The Transition Year student from Colàiste Bhaile Chlàir believes whoever broke into the farm knew exactly what they were looking for.

“I don’t know who did this or why, but all I know is it’s three years of hard work and investment down the drain. I don’t know yet if I’ve the heart to start all over again, knowing that it could all be stolen again,” he said.
