Family’s World Cup trip of a lifetime

Sylane and Cortoon Shamrock GAA jerseys worn in Qatar

FIVE siblings from Sylane have had the experience of a lifetime by attending the World Cup in Qatar where their father is a senior member of the tournament’s organising committee.

Patrick, 17; Ronan, 15; Clodagh, 14; Rebecca, 11; and nine-year-old Freya Carney travelled to Doha late last month to meet up with Dad Neil, an events management consultant who has one of the top jobs at Qatar ’22.

The children’s mother Celia Flanagan and her partner Conal Burke, along with Conal’s daughter Alex, also travelled to the Middle East, where they took in three group games in the tournament, seeing the superstar skills of soccer legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo up close.

Speaking from their home in Bodane following their return to Ireland last week, the family said it was beyond words how thrilling the experience had been…
